Brum BiFest Programme

When do activities run?

Brum BiFest will open its doors at 11am, with the first structured activity starting at 11:30am.

The last structured activity will finish at 7:30pm and Brum BiFest will close at 8pm.

We will be providing an attendance badge so attenders can come and go throughout the day to attend other Shout events or obtain food from nearby places.

What is on?

The Warehouse is a large open plan space so we shall be aiming to maximise its potential by dividing the room into two, one part for open access sessions and the other for information zones, stalls, a literature corner and chillout spaces. Attenders are welcome to drop in and out of sessions and other space as they choose. We will have activties and space for shyer people as well as those who wish to meet new people.

    Session Outlines

    Bi 101

UK Bi For Beginners session: A quick introduction to the UK Bi scene - what's out there and how you can get involved.

    Session facilitator: Jen
Jen is editor of Bi Community News and has run Manchester's local bi group for the last ten years.

Living as bi in a gay and straight world

This participative workshop will look at the world around us as Bi people, the reasons everything splits down into gay and straight and how we feel stuck in the middle. We'll also look at some different ways people have coped with this and things we can do to change the world around us.

    Session Facilitator: Ele
Ele has been active in the bisexual community since BiCon 2004. She is a current committee member for Bi Cymru/Wales and Bi Swansea and does most of her bi activism in Wales. She is also running Bifest Wales in April 2010 and has experience in voluntary/charity work, including policy, campaigns, funding and volunteer management.

    Bisexuality Invisibilities

This will be a discussion session about the invisibilities experienced by bisexual people. Examples include being invisibilised by monogamous opposite-sex relationship or being single.

    Safer-sex Supplies - have a fondle (16+ only)

Have you ever seen a dental dam? Sliced a condom or glove as recommended as a make-shift dental dam? Seen what a femidom looks like inside the packet? Experienced the different feel (and if you're brave taste) of different lubricants? If not, and or you're intrigued this session may be for you. Just an informal chat about people's experiences of various products and a chance to see what they look and feel like for yourself.

    Ask the Panel - Q&A

Ever had a burning question about bisexuality that you've wanted to ask. Or just a silly question? This will be a light hearted Q&A panel who will do their best to answer your query. http://www.barakta.org.uk/brumbifest/programme.html

    Food and drink

We will be providing a free picnic style lunch from 12:30pm to 2:30pm aiming to provide a reasonable spread of picnicky vegan, vegetarian and other food which will be labelled as clearly as we can.

Free tea (regular and fruit), coffee, hot chocolate and fruit juice/squash will be available throughout the day. We will provide regular and soyamilk.

In the evening we will have another group meal break where the remains of the picnic can be eaten. Other food such as takeaway can be ordered in from menus that we will have available. ABplus is 5 minutes walk from many places which serve food.

Here is a map with some of the most local places where food can be eaten-in, or bought back to ABplus from:

We recommend if you have any specific food needs that you email or phone us at least a week before BiFest (by 14th Nov) to see if we will be able to accommodate your needs.
